Summary:
The Failure Analysis Engineer will perform root cause metallurgical failure analysis of rotorcraft components in support of the Army’s Aviation Quality Deficiency Reporting system.     

Specific Duties:

• Participate in tear-down analysis, identify components that are likely involved in the failure, and specify the testing required to reveal the root cause
• Perform failure analysis
• Coordination of various engineering organizations

Required Knowledge - Skills - and Abilities:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years directly related work experience required.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to successfully complete the Stanley Background Investigation to include; 50 State Criminal, Education and Employment; Additionally, your ability to successfully complete a Credit and/or Driving Records Checks may be conducted if required by the contract for continued employment.
• Possession of an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is required to begin employment; Ability to maintain a SECRET security clearance is required for continued employment; US Citizenship is required.
• Knowledge and experience of complex mechanical subsystems such as transmissions
• Knowledge and experience with materials regarding processing, inspection, and testing
• Knowledge and experience with destructive testing and non-destructive testing methods
• Ability to perform analyses involving SEM/EDS, metallography, optical microscopy, hardness testing, micro-hardness testing, optical emission spectroscopy, and conductivity testing     
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, Technical Manuals (TM), Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWR), etc. and recommend testing to prove/disprove a component’s conformance to all required specifications
• Ability to track multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
• Education and/or background in metallurgical/materials engineering
• Ability to effectively work with a team of engineers and technicians
• Ability to effectively and accurately communicate (both verbal and written) results of failure analysis, clearly identify a root cause(s), and make recommendations for corrective action(s)
• Ability to guide the work of technicians
• Aviation experince REQUIRED

• Direct experience with rotorcraft and/or aerospace components
• Direct Aircraft & Powerplant (A&P) experience
